More photos from the event

On Thursday March 26, Jaguar Cars' Chairman Nicholas Scheele visited us here at Bergen Jaguar for afternoon tea. Joining Chairman Scheele was Mike Dale, President of Jaguar Cars of North America and Stephen Odell, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. We had a cheerio time! Dennis Squitieri, Managing Director of Bergen Jaguar, led our visitors on a tour of the dealership, including a walk-through of our new showroom presently under construction. Hopefully we helped Chairman Scheele feel at home with afternoon tea, but in either case he was off to England shortly after his visit. We would like to thank Chairman Scheele and President Dale for their friendly visit and salute their continuing efforts in making Jaguar Cars such a success.

1998 Model Engineering Advances will cost You less Money and Time
New advances in Jaguar engineering has created the best Jaguar engine yet. An inspirational yet refined 8 cylinder generating 290 horsepower requires less maintenance scheduling and cost than last year's 6 cylinder engine. How'd they do that??!!! Revised service schedules now extends spark plug life to 100,000 miles and oil change intervals to 10,000 miles.

Other engineering advances include a new 5 speed automatic transmission which is factory-filled for the life of the vehicle and zero-maintenance camshaft chains.

Maintenance costs for the naturally aspirated '98 sedans are less by one-third over the first 50,000 miles of driving. Don't forget the more time you'll have too, less trips for regular maintenance.

Find out more about our maintenance requirements of your Jaguar, feel free to call a service represenative here at Bergen Jaguar. We'll be happy to address any of your questions.

Why Should You Use Premium Fuel in Your Jag Anyway?
Using premium gasoline was once a must for Jaguars in the past. Although the present Jaguar engine can adapt itself to lower octane gasolines, high octane premium fuel is strongly recommended. Using a higher octane gasoline greatly reduces engine wear and tear which will prolong the engine's life and performance. Using a premium rated fuel also will benefit drivers with better mileage which means fewer trips to the gas station.

Jaguars Recognized by Museum of Modern Art as a Piece of Art
Jaguar owners have always known it, Jaguars are works of art. A 1963 Jaguar E-type was put on display at the Museum of Modern Art in April of 1996, the same time the XK8 convertible was unveiled in New York City to the world. The car was added to the museum's prestigious design collection. Only two other cars are held in the museum's collection: a 1946 Cisitalia 202 GT and a 1990 Ferrari Formula 1 racer. According to Terence Riley, chief curator , Department of Architecture and Design, the E-type Jaguar was chosen "because of the E-type's beauty and sculptural quality, its functionality, and its seminal impact on overall car design."

The museum already holds in its permanent collection the two scale models of the original E-type coupe. They were acquired in 1964, the year Car and Driver voted the E-type the "Best All-Round Car". It was also only three years after the car was unveiled to the world at the New York Auto Show.

Jaguar History Lesson

Pictured above was Jaguar's first new post-war model, the Mark V. The car was produced from 1948 to 1951 and was available in a 2.5 and 3.5 litre engine. The chassis was designed to be very stiff providing an excellent ride and even featured an independent front suspension, an engineering innovation at the time.

Jaguars: The Animal Behind the
Auto Legend

We already know what consists of a Jaguar car's diet, but did you know what Jaguar animals eat? Jaguars in the wild are mainly carnivores. They prey on many species including monkeys, sloths, kinkajous, capybaras, porcupines, armadillos, birds, snakes, iguanas, tapirs, and many others. Jaguars will also occasionally eat plant matter such as avocados and other fruit.

Jaguars are fantastic hunters. They are excellent at climbing trees and even swimming, something most other cats avoid at all costs. With such prowless most prey have little chance against a hungry Jaguar. It will usually stalk, then quickly ambush their prey.

Motor Trend does first
test of the Jaguar XJ8 L

Motor Trend Magazine writes about their first test of the Jaguar XJ8 L in their April 1998 publication. The L stands for the car's longer wheel-base compared to the standard sedan model. It includes 4.9 inches of additional front and rear leg room and even additional headroom. Author Bob Nagy was quick to notice all the improvements in the 98 model, such as a new V8 engine and a new 5 speed transmission, and surprised that the car's price did not go up while these improvements were made. He was also quick to notice that the new XJ8 is 0.1 second quicker than last year's supercharged 6 cylinder XJR in the 0-60 mph test.

Like most Jaguar owners and admirers, author Bob Nagy raved over the performance and luxury of the new Jaguar sedan. He summarizes the article with the following statement: "... A stylish high-end sedan that blends the best of the luxury and performance worlds." We at Bergen Jaguar totally agree.

Pick up the April edition of Motor Trend to read this article starting on page 86. Also, check out Motor Trend on the Internet at www.motortrend.com. You can't access this article on the XJ8 L on-line, but you'll find other articles in past editions singing Jaguar's praise.

Truly Unique!

What else is unique to Bergen Jaguar other than a life-size statue of Winston Churchill? Well, how about this? A hand painted mural featuring a 1960’s circa XKE. When you come into our showroom make sure you look up, the mural adorns the vaulted ceiling of our showroom's entrance. Pretty unique, don't you think?

The painting includes an English country side scene with a winding road on which a beautiful silver XKE rides along. Look to the left and you'll see a stately English manor house, but don't look for the artist's signature. Why not? Because why should you look at a signature when you can see the artist. What I'm getting at is that the artist is included in the scene, he's the driver of that beautiful silver XKE!

Bergen Jaguar's Commitment to its Community
Bergen Jaguar's commitment to its community and charitable events is in "full-swing". We are sponsoring a hole-in-one Jaguar prize for the following charitable golf tournaments:

  • Franklin Lakes Lion's Club Charity Golf Outing at Hackensack Country Club in May.

  • Ramapo College Foundation Tournament at the Hackensack Country Club in July.
At both these tournaments a chosen hole-in-one will win a brand new Jaguar from Bergen Jaguar. Better brush up on that swing!

Bergen Jaguar is also a sponsor of Pro Arte Chorale which is having a benefit concert in Franklin Lakes on April 5th with Mary Dunleavy. Ms. Dunleavy is a soprano who has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, Hamburg Opera, Rome Opera, and many other theaters throughout the world. Following this special concert will be a dinner and champagne toast at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes.
