1998 Marks the 50th Anniversary of the XK:
The Evolution of the XK120 to the XK8

This year Jaguar celebrates the 50th year of the XK model. Sir William Lyons designed the first XK, the XK120, for the 1948 Motor Show. The 'X' stood for experimental and the 120 designated the car's top speed, though without the windscreen the top speed was 133 miles per hour. The beautiful two-door coupe was the fastest production car in the world and almost instantly Jaguar could not meet the demand.
The United States was equally enthralled with the Jaguar XK120. Stars like Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, Humphrey Bogart, and Cary Grand all owned an XK120.
In 1951 Jaguar expanded the XK120 to include the 'Fixed Head' model which featured a solid roof, wind up windows (as opposed to side screens), and a walnut-veneered dash (as is expected of all Jaguars). This model continued the success of the XK. The XK120C, otherwise known as the C-type was also born in 1951, just in time for victory at Le Mans . This XK featured an aluminum body designed solely for racing.
The most famous Jaguar XK, the XK-E (E-type) was introduced to the world in 1961. The E-types were capable of 150 miles per hour and still retained the comfort and good looks the public expected from Jaguar.
1971 brought a V12 engine offering to the XK-E providing a huge power boost. Just 3 years later, in 1974, the last of the 70,000 E-types were produced.
The next Jaguar coupe was not an XK, it was an XJ-S. It was not engineered to be a conventional sports coupe like the previous XKs. Instead, it was designed to be more of a Grand Touring car. 1996 was the last XJ-S model year, ending a 21 year legacy.
1997 brought the return of the XK model, known as the XK8, the very first jaguar to feature an 8-cylinder engine. The XK8 continues the XK tradition of luxury, speed and performance, featuring the styling that's reminiscent of past XKs. It features a twin-DOHC, 32 valve V8 engine that produces 290 horspower and 290 ft-lbs. of torque. Automobile Magazine exclaimed, "the Jaguar XK8 is a miracle and that's all there is to it." Any XK lover would heartily agree.

Pride of Jaguar Trip to France

More photos from the event

As any Bergen Jaguar fan would know, we recently won The Pride of Jaguar award for an unprecedented 3rd year in a row. The award is earned by those dealers who succeed in outstanding sales and customer satisfaction. It puts Bergen Jaguar in the top ten US Jaguar dealers. Along with the artistic recognition award on display in our showroom, Bergen Jaguar's Managing Director, Dennis Squitieri and Alice, his wife, were given an all-expense trip to Paris, France.
Dennis and Alice stayed in the Paris Ritz Hotel and were given a car with a driver to tour the city during the day. Exciting evening events were planned by Jaguar including a cruise on the Seine River, "The Phantom of the Opera", a dinner at the Paris Museum of Architecture, an Antique Car Motorcade complete with Paparazzi, and a private dinner at any restaurant in the city on Jaguar. It was an exciting trip for the Squitieris, who recognize that there arise great opportunities in anticipating and surpassing customers' needs and expectations here at Bergen Jaguar.

Dennis enjoys the French version
of the Bergen Theme song.
